God’s Word is our
Ultimate Authority
The whole counsel of God, both the Old and New Testaments are God breathed and hold authority over our lives. The Bible is inerrant in its original form and inspired by God. Although written by man the writings were guided by the Holy Spirit.
The Gospel is not a
badge to wear but a
Life To Live
As Tim Keller famously said, “The Gospel is not the diving board into Christianity. It is the pool that we go deeper into.” The Gospel is the finished work of Jesus that provides salvation through a process of justification, sanctification, and glorification. We don’t claim to be Christians because we prayed a prayer or attend a church. We are Christ followers based on our relationship with Jesus sustained through a lifetime.
We seek the Peace
of the city
God’s kingdom is breaking into the present through the local church. We are supposed to establish a signpost to a better kingdom by living for the peace of the city.
The Church is an Army
not an Audience
Churches tend to resemble one of three things. They look like cruise ships that exist to entertain. They develop programs where people show up and spectate. Churches can also look like battleships that fight the war against the enemy through hiring staff to do the work. The healthiest churches resemble aircraft carriers who equip believers and launch every member into the mission to push back darkness in the world.
We are led by the Spirit,
taught by the Word, and
Abide in Prayer
We submit to God’s leading through prayer, by His Spirit and in His word. Our relationship with God is active and multidimensional.
We surrender the First
and Best of our time,
talents, and treasures
God has called every believer to steward the resources He entrusted to us by giving our first and our best. Healthy discipleship happens as we give our first and our best. Jesus famously said in Matthew 6 that you cannot serve two masters. He said, “Where your treasure is, your heart will be also.” Giving our first and our best communicates what we worship and value.
We are Created for
Community and discipled
in Relationships
Discipleship happens in relationships through the local church. Because God designed us for community human flourish happens best in the context of Biblical community.
People are the Mission
At City Church we believe the church exists for the mission and the mission is people from every tribe, tongue, and nation (Revelation 7:9-10) coming to faith in Jesus.
Multiplication through
Intersection not
Addition
Multiplication happens as we interact our lives with the things we do on a regular basis and we do it with Gospel intentionality. Multiplication happens when all Christ followers are involved in kingdom expansion.
We cultivate
Gospel Balance
The best expression of the church is found through Gospel balance. We don’t believe you need to choose between evangelism and discipleship. Flourishing in the church happens in the tension of balance.
We believe in
Intersection not
Addition
At City Church our conviction is to do the things we are already doing and do it with Gospel intentionality.
Healthy things Grow and
healthy things Change
The church is an organism as much as it is an organization. Because the church is alive it should grow and multiply. Just as all living organisms grow the church should as well. The church should grow and develop healthy multiplying communities that are continually reaching people and adapting to new environments.
